Flying Falcon – Autumn 2018 Week 3

Message from the Headmaster:

The third week of this term has come and gone in a blur! I like having weeks like this one where there has been a lot of really solid uninterrupted learning taking place. The boys are very settled in their new classes and routines. We had two new arrivals this week, two guinea pigs join the Nursery. We currently have a a poll running on Twitter to decide their names and they have generated a lot of interest and excitement for the boys. What this space as we choose their names.
This week on Wednesday Mrs Thomson and I attended a Safer Recruitment course which was aimed at helping us to vet unsuit-able candidates who may apply for jobs in schools. I have been on this course before therefore it was a renewal course but it is always such an eye opener when you listen to the statistics and case studies used to highlight how important it is for Heads and Senior Leaders in school to prioritise child protection. This is where it is so good to be part of the Alpha Plus group as our Head Office frequently arranges this type of essential training for us.
We had our Jeans for Genes charity today and I must admit it felt rather odd being at school wearing jeans! This is a very good charity which is supported by the whole Alpha Plus group. More information can be found here:
Our Year 2 boys played football against Arnold House, this was their first fixture. It was great to see them in their kit representing the school. These are always a hit with the boys and something they look forward to with great enthusiasm.
We had an article published in the Chiswick Herald this week which has been gaining momentum on their twitter feed:, I would be interested to hear your views and urge you to share it on social media.
Finally, our parental talk with James Shone has been gaining in popularity, there are however tickets still available (please note this is an open event and not just restricted to Falcons parents) Tickets can be purchased here; I know I am looking forward to this talk as it is something I believe will help to create a more resilient future gen-eration. Please remember that we have individual photos taking place on Monday. I hope you all have a really lovely weekend – please click HERE to read the rest of this week’s newsletter.
