Flying Falcon Autumn 2018 – Week 6

Message from the Headmaster:

This week kicked off with our PA being invited to lunch on Monday. It was a little way of saying thank you to them for volunteering their time to help in so many ways. It was so successful that we have decided to roll this out with our Magic Breakfasts. Who knew that having a meal in school with your son would be so popular; the boys often describe lunch time as their favourite lesson, so it should not be such a surprise! Our Year 2 boys were bundled off to the Imperial War Museum on Tuesday which is a typically boy friendly trip to support their history topic. They came back buzzing with excitement and I cannot wait to see how this trip is used to inspire their English writing. I had the pleasure of being invited to our Falcons Prep open evening on Thursday. Miss Buchanan and her team have many exciting initiatives in place and planned. The evening was filled with excitement and enthusiasm. I particularly enjoyed seeing all the boys who volunteered their time to show prospective parents their school. They were such fantastic ambassadors for both schools, although it did make me realise how quickly time is going. Our PA Charity Funathalon took place today and I must admit I was not keen to have a pie in my face but once again democracy ruled and I did it all in the name of charity! The boys had a fantastic time completing the course and raising money for ‘Marine Conservation Society’. Thank you for your support and good luck to Mr Barratt who will complete the York Marathon during half term in support of our school charity. This is an excellent way to gain support; the boys really look up to their teachers as role models. I find it hard to believe that we have had half a term of school already. I think the boys are ready for a break and I hope they get a lot of time to read and play during the 2 weeks of half term. I will be travelling to New York to spend time with my godson who is 7 and no doubt we will be visiting the Natural History Museum again as he is dinosaur obsessed. I will also be spending some time with the headmistress of Wetherby Pembridge, our New York school. Being part of the Alpha Plus Group, we are always sharing good practice. I hope you have a wonderful half term with your boys – do get them outside to enjoy the lovely autumnal weather we are having.  Please click here To read the rest of this week’s Newsletter in full.  Andrew Forbes
