Falcons Nursery (ages 2-4)

Welcome to our Nursery for boys and girls! We are proud to be a happy, fun and welcoming place for pupils, parents and staff.

Our Nursery provides the first and most important steps in learning for boys and girls aged 2 to 4 years old.  It is an integral part of the Falcons Pre-Prep Chiswick, playing an important role in contributing to the culture and ethos of the whole school.

Provided we are able to meet all of your son’s needs as stated in the SEND section of our Admissions Policy, attendance at our Nursery guarantees automatic entry into Reception for all boys.  As a result, they are assured of a flying start as they move seamlessly into the main school.

For our Nursery girls, we will provide them with the foundation for preparing for both non-selective and selective schools.  We will support parents in the selection and application process to help them gain entry into one of the many wonderful independent or state schools in the area, depending on what is the best fit for your daughter and your family.

Nursery Hours

All children attend 5 mornings: 8.30am to 12.30pm (inclusive of lunch). Breakfast Club is available from 7.45am.  Afternoon sessions are available 5 days a week and children are encouraged to attend at least 3 full days by the end of the summer term to prepare them for their start in Reception. The afternoon sessions end at 3.10 pm with additional care until 5.00pm included in the fees.  Late care is also available until 6.00pm at an additional cost.

Mini Falcons (2+)

Mini Falcons is for children aged 2-3 and is a part of our main Nursery.  The children spend many parts of the day with our 3-4 year olds.  Each child benefits from watching how the older children interact and have the opportunity to foster friendships across age ranges.

Each child will be assigned a key person who will oversee his/her curriculum plan.

Our curriculum is structured around four zones of the day: Play-based learning, directed learning, eating, and sleeping.  During each of the zones, our Mini Falcons will be guided by our team of expert teachers.

Little Falcons (3+)

Little Falcons is for children aged 3-4 and is a part of our main Nursery.  The children interact with our younger nursery children as well as having designated learning time for their development.

Each child will be assigned a key person who will oversee his/her curriculum plan.  The Little Falcons curriculum model will be based on our proven Nursery curriculum with targeted times in the day for literacy and maths development along with all Early Years areas of learning, as stated by the DfE.

We know that our 3 year olds will be ready for more structured, play-based learning and our team of experts will guide each child in a way that is developmentally appropriate.

Early Years and Foundation Stage Curriculum

  • We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum – Development Matters which develops skills, knowledge and attitudes in 7 learning areas: Communication and Language, Physical Development, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Design.
  • Much emphasis is placed on Personal, Social and Emotional Development, particularly in the first term. Developing independence and being able to listen and contribute as part of a group is also one of the most important skills to acquire at this stage.
  • Each day the children will experience being taught as part of a whole class group, a small group and in a one- to- one capacity. It is important that they thoroughly enjoy their time in these two foundation years, and leave with an enthusiastic attitude to learning, along with the relevant skills and knowledge.
  • Forest School – each week the children spend time outside in nature, learning from the world around them. Sessions are led by our Head of Nursery who is also a qualified Forest School practitioner. We visit our local green spaces such as Harvard Hill Park, Chiswick House Gardens and the Gunnersbury Triangle.  Each season brings with it a new canvas to learn from. Small children need space to develop their physical skills and Forest School gives them the space to do this and so much more. We learn to take calculated risks, climb trees, roll down hills and get our hands dirty in the mud.  Please click HERE to read more about our Forest School offering.
  • Each half term has a theme (which provides a focus for the children’s learning) and activities with clear learning objectives. A lot of these planned activities are practical and self-initiated in nature as this is how young children learn most effectively. There are also opportunities for the children to participate in free flow learning, whereby their developmental milestones are recorded.
  • The children have PE with a specialist teacher and also participate in planned activities (covering all 7 areas of learning) outside on a regular basis – they need lots of active outdoor play!
  • Music is taught by a specialist teacher and the children also regularly sing, play music and dance with the nursery staff as well.

Nursery afternoon curriculum

The afternoon curriculum is an exciting part of the day with the children participating in a variety of different clubs such as cooking, painting, and science.  Each afternoon is centred around the Early Years Framework and gives our children additional opportunities to develop and foster a love of learning.
