Geography in the Early Years is taught as part of the wider EYFS curriculum, under the heading of Understanding of the World. In Key Stage 1 Geography is taught in half-termly periods. Fieldwork is vital to good geography teaching and we include as many opportunities as we can to involve children in practical geographical research and enquiry. These trips fit into the topics the children are learning about and help to bring the subject to life. Our students particularly enjoy the International Days at the Pre-Prep. They share a huge excitement when learning about different cultures through hands on experiences such as playing traditional music and tasting new foods.
Geography is taught with great enthusiasm highlighting the subject’s potential for creativity. The pupils show real interest in the subject, particularly the aspects of map reading, grid references and co-ordinates. Eco-friendly living is a very popular topic and probably the most important geographically based profession for the future.
