Through Drama and Theatre Studies we seek to enrich the life of the school and its pupils. We encourage pupils to explore their imaginations and allow them a safe space to develop their creative and artistic minds.

Boys take part in various English and Drama workshops, which are provided by some of London’s first-rate ‘Theatre in Education’ groups, and visits are made to see theatre productions in the West End, at the Orange Tree Theatre in Richmond, Richmond Theatre and the Lyric in Hammersmith to name a few. Recent productions the boys have been to include; Lord of the Flies, Wicked, The Winter’s Tale, East is East and The Woman in Black.

Every class receive a thirty minute drama lesson a week. Our curriculum is full and varied we study topics such as mime, improvisation, play text analysis, devising theatre, animal studies and character development.

We put on three productions a year here at the Falcon’s. The boys all have the opportunity to audition for their parts and every boy throughout the whole school is involved. We group together the year groups for each termly production. Our format at present is; Shakespeare with Year 8 and 7, Musical theatre Year 6 and 5 and Musical theatre Year 4 and 3. All our productions are put on in a professional theatre around the local area, insuring that the boys get the full experience of rehearsing a play and then performing on a stage in front of a live audience.

Boys who are more interested in the backstage side of theatre may assist on our various productions during the year. Here they are taught how to operate sophisticated theatrical light and sound equipment, as well as exploring the skills behind set design, stage management and prop making. They acquire an expertise, which becomes a valued skill here at The Falcon’s.

For boys who want to do more drama, we offer private LAMDA lessons. These lessons take place once a week for thirty minutes and are taught by professional actors and directors.
